Many educators have become overwhelmed as they think about how Common Core will have to be implemented.  There is a presumption that Common Core will simply come to mean COMPLICATED!   This does not have to be the case.  Common Core is simply a set of standards.  Don’t let them make you apprehensive.  The process for implementing Common Core will be unfolded during this two day workshop.  Participants will gain an understanding of the Common Core Standards; analyze the BIG TEN literacy standards that will be taught across curricular lines in ELA, Science, Social Sciences, and Technical Courses; analyze the Mathematical Practices; analyze current lessons to determine alignment to the Common Core Standards; and leave with a plan to use all available data to issue in college and career readiness and to prepare your schools and districts.

The important thing about the Common Core is it is here to stay.  It is research and evidence-based, aligned with college and work expectations, rigorous, and internationally benchmarked. But the most important thing about the Common Core is it is here to stay. 

The purpose of this series of four workshops is to help 1st and 2nd grade teachers learn the important features to effectively implement the Common Core State Standards in their classrooms. Central to this training will be discussion of what’s included in the Common Core Standards, with a careful eye for what’s new. A discussion of Missouri’s state-level GLE’s, followed by an analysis of the standards, will provide the foundation for the development of instructional strategies that will meet the expectations of the Common Core. An analysis of suggested exemplars for Common Core ELA standards and literature currently being used in your classrooms will be conducted. The workshop series will offer strategies and resources to meet the needs of Missouri’s 1st  and 2nd grade teachers in Communication Arts and Math as they blaze the trail for Common Core implementation.
