Thinking Like a Scientist: Performance Events and Inquiry

Teaching Reading in the Content Areas

Attendees will have an increased awareness of the importance of teaching reading in content areas by focusing on reading and vocabulary strategies.  This workshop will focus on children’s literature (fiction and nonfiction) and integration with other content areas.  Resource book Teaching Reading in the Content Areas: If Not Me, Then Who?  by Rachel Billmeyer and Mary Lee Barton, is included in the workshop fee.

Picture-Perfect Science Lessons

next steps.  Formative assessment probes, preconceptions, note-booking techniques, Socratic dialog, student involvement in assessment, and exit tickets are used as tools in science classes to find out “What are you thinking?”
