Adding & Subtracting Fractions
This unit of study covers computations with fractions based on conceptual understanding. Prior knowledge includes determining order of fractions, benchmark understanding (0, 1/2, 1) and a variety of experiences with fractions and percents. Students will complete various forms of graphs using Excel, Word, or other data generating program to graph data from American Idol or another data-driven reality show. They will also be expected to calculate mean, median, and mode on the weekly data collected. Finally, the will be expected to write a summary of each weeks’ results and give a brief reason for the voting outcome. (ex.. performance, judges comments, contestant’s attitude, etc…) With their explanation the students need to form an opinion as to whether the judges’ comments had an impact on the vote that week. Finally students will create a product of their choice to show how data collection is used in daily lives to make decisions.What are the Effects of Global Warming?
