You have been asked by the Missouri State Historical Society to research and construct a tourist brochure on a Civil War Battle Site in Missouri. Although there were not numerous battle sites in Missouri, keep in mind that numerous skirmishes and historical events pertaining to the civil war took place in Missouri. You will pick a certain event, research it, construct a map of the site, include background information, construct a timeline and current directions to the site. You will be working in pairs of two.

The brochure will be distributed at the site where the battle or conflict took place. In order to create a quality brochure several things must be addressed and included in the brochure.

  • You will use the internet and library materials to form a concise historical account of the battle to be included in the brochure.
  • You will develop a timeline outlining the events leading up to and during the battle to be included in the brochure.
  • You will include a map of the site to be included in the brochure. You will need to include a map key and compass rose with the map.
  • You will include directions to the site to be included in the brochure. For example, if you were to choose the Battle of Wilsonís Creek as your topic, you will need to consult a current Missouri road map to create directions to the site.
  • After completion, you and your partner will present a 5 minute presentation on your project to the class. You will have a total of 5 class periods to conduct research, and then create your brochure.
